Lionel Messi on to bigger, brighter things?

Barcelona soccer star Lionel Messi might leave the team for other options due to management issues.

Perhaps the best soccer player in the world has requested a transfer after being at the club for over 15 years. Lionel Messi has shocked the world and has requested a transfer from his lifelong team Barcelona FC. Why is this shocking? Messi has spent his entire historic career with Barcelona being there for 17 years. From his record six Ballon D’Or (given to best player of the season across the world) to his record breaking 91 goals scored in a calendar year, Messi has had plenty of legendary moments, but fans can’t fathom the idea of Messi on another team. According to reliable sources ESPN and Bleacher Report Messi has been upset with the clubs front office and their actions. He was upset when the club fired

manager Ernesto Valverde who he believed was right for the job.

Messi also did not like the actions of club President Josep Maria Bartomeu regarding the transfer of Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain back to Barcelona. Neymar played with Messi at Barcelona from 2013-2017 only to transfer to PSG in 2017. He is not only upset with the front office but the club's recent losses as well. For the first time since the 2007/08 season, Barcelona have had a trophyless season. Messi being the ‘best’ wants to achieve the best, so a trophyless season is frustrating for him. Barcelona sat two points on top of La Liga, the league in Spain, over rivals In November 2003, Messi

five points. Barcelona were involved in an historic game this year in the Champions League (Tournament involving the best teams across Europe). Barcelona were handed a 8-2 defeat in the quarter finals against Bayern Munich (Germany) which became the worst defeat in club history for Barcelona. This 8-2 defeat sparked Messi to come out publicly on wanting to leave Barcelona.

Barcelona fans started their plea for Messi to stay, while big clubs across Europe tarted trying to convince Messi to come to them. The team that convinced the 33 year old was Manchester City (England), the assumed best choice for Messi because he wants to join old manager Pep Guardiola who managed Messi at Barcelona from 2008-2012. Messi had the option to leave Barcelona for free before June 30th or else he would have to leave by another club activating his 700 million euro release clause. With the season halted due to coronavirus Messi had thought that his free transfer deadline would extend but the club did not allow it.

With a free transfer not possible anymore Messi’s only way of leaving would be by a club activating his 700 million euro release clause or Messi taking Barcelona to court. Messi stated “...The president told me the only way to leave was to pay the 700 million euro clause and that this is impossible”. In the end no
