Female Rappers That Are Taking Over


Despite all the hardships in 2020, the rap industry was a big win for women. One of the biggest songs this year was Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B’s single “WAP”, which got over 93 million streams on its debut and is currently 3x Platinum. Other rappers like Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, Mulatto, and so much more also had a breakout year in 2020.

A single that hit No.1 on Billboard Hot 100 was Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj song “Say So”. The song “Say So” was streamed all across the world and broke many records. It was the first time two female rappers topped the Billboard Hot 100. Doja Cat also earned the title of most streamed f


emale rapper on spotify in 2020. Her career at first did not have a lot of a lot of traction, but after her latest album, Doja Cat has become a lot more successful in such a competitive industry.

XXL’s freshman of the year represented two female rappers Mulatto and Chika.


XXL highlights 10 upcoming artists every year. Each artist shows why they are next up with freestyles this year over JetsonMade’s beats. Both artists put out impressive freestyles and caught everyone’s attention. Mulatto’s best single is “***** From the Souf”, which hit 95 on the Billboard Hot 100, and a RIAA Gold Award. Chika had an even more impressive year.

Possibly the women who had the best year in the game is Meg Thee Stallion and Lizzo. The plus-sized rapper, singer, and flutist, and out of Detroit Lizzo has become a pheno-

menon in the music industry. Not only has she won Grammys for her outstanding work, but she is also spreading a positive message about body positivity with people who are overweight.

Although she didn’t finish school at the University of Houston, Lizzo’s musical background led to a successful career in the pop and rap industry, spreading a message around the world. Megan Thee Stallion won nine awards for her songs “WAP”, “Savage”, and “Hot Girl Summer”. As

2020 was a record breaking year for female rappers, and there is more to come in 2021. These records are a lot more than an award, it is also inspiring young women across the globe.
